Tiny Home, Big Flavor

Setting the scene

Over spring break (or the week after because I planned it wrong) I chose to spend a few nights in a tiny home in the middle of the woods in western Virginia. 140 square feet for my partner and myself. There are about 30 homes throughout the wooded area, each with a name. We stayed in Joanne. I’d always been curious about what the experience would be living in such a small area. While I would not want to live in one long term, a few days surrounded by nature with only essentials was the perfect way to unplug from reality.

Bringing Savvy Along for the Ride

Armed with only two burners, a sink and a few pots and pans, I had to get creative with snacks and meals. Now because this was a tiny home, I had to think tiny when packing, so bringing the set of 8 was out of the question. To really put some of the Savvy & Well spices to the test, I brought two along to see how they help in such a small environment. I chose a sweet and savory, Mojo Citrico, and Choco Chai. I will also add that water was coming from a tank, which I had to be mindful of when cooking as to not overuse.

Simple Dinner

While we only made one entrée and a few snacks, I was able to use Savvy spice blends for it all. Dinner our last night was simple, using some of the provisions provided we made spaghetti. A bag of pasta and a bottle of marinara made for an easy cook. To add an additional layer of flavor and to really enhance the simplicity of the pasta, a generous amount of Mojo Citrico was added to the sauce. Three ingredients later and a delicious meal is created!

Creative Snacks

I got a little more creative with the snacks during the afternoon. I picked up a few ingredients at a local store to make what I’ve always called Muddy Buddies. For some context, it’s just chex cereal coated with chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. It’s something I grew up with and is super easy to make! To put a different spin on it, I added in Choco Chai with the powdered sugar to coat them. Adding the cinnamon and clove flavors really gave an old classic new dynamic flavor!

While it doesn’t show very well in the picture, I mixed the Choco Chai with the powdered sugar.

For a healthier snack, I went with plain raw peanuts. Going plain lends itself to any flavor profile you could want. Again the mojo really stood out and created a super flavorful  taste without adding extra salt or calories! To get the spices to stick to the peanuts, I coated them in a touch of olive oil first, just enough to get them coated but not so much that it gets messy.
